Challenging operational environments, organizational structure deficits causing overburden at work, limited boundaries between work and personal life, difficulties in maintaining a personal life outside of work, overwhelm, despair, chronic burnout, loss of motivation, confusion, anxiety, fear, trauma, PTSD, lack of support, hopelessness, loss of faith in humanity/ourselves/our organisation… are all aspects of humanitarian life that the outside world doesn’t see. But we do. We live it and feel it every day.

The truth is, the level of self- and outside expectations is far too high, and, we are stretched thin. 

But you can take action today and hack your nervous system to support your lifestyle and the demanding conditions of humanitarian work.

HumaniCare starts with the assumption that you are willing to do what it takes to challenge the status quo. If you want to be healthy, aligned and feel in control of the path that’s ahead of you, then this platform is for you. On the other hand, if you are not willing to do the work and reflect on your daily habits, you may not enjoy what we will teach you.

Hey, I’m Joanna

I have spent most of my adult life working for the International Committee of the Red Cross. After over a decade of immense emotional engagement and several traumatic experiences, my body and mind collapsed, and I was left unable to perform for over a year. I changed everything in my life, from country to lifestyle, went back to school and learned about yoga therapy, mindfulness and functional medicine. More equipped to take care of myself, I returned to the Red Cross Movement and joined the Canadian Red Cross. 

I am on a journey to defeat negative stress, burnout and anxiety from our line of work. I believe we can change the world by being more present, connected to our environment and ultimately more "human".
